Welsh Cobs

Mt. Dragon Pony Acres

Founded in 1985, Mt. Dragon Pony Acres has grown to one of the largest breeding operations of quality Welsh in the United States today.

Mt Dragon Pony Acres exists because of two wonderful people, my parents Ceciel and Paul Evans. My Mother put me in front of her on a pillow for my first ride when I was nine months old. I have been riding ever since.

Mt Dragon Pony Acres

From my Dad I learned the fundamentals of handling horses and training. One of his favorite sayings was "You just have to have more time than the horse."

Although my parents have both been gone for several years, Mt Dragon Pony acres is located on the family farm which I grew up on. It represents the fulfillment of a life long love of horses in general and Welsh Ponies in particular. We have the good fortune of live in a beautiful isolated area in Oregon, complete with plentiful pasture, trees, rivers, and wild life. We are surrounded on three sides by the National forest with miles of trails and open country to ride in.

The magic of the Welsh had long captured my imagination. We became serious about breeding Welsh in 1986. In 1990 I had the good fortune to have the opportunity to purchase Bristol Victorio from Cherry Wilson of the well-known and respected Bristol Pony Farm. The Bristol Ponies have long been sought after for their bold movement, substance, and beauty. Cherry's program consistently used the old wonderful bloodlines in proven crosses. Victorio was the last son of the incomparable Lithgow Wishnik and by the National Champion stallion RosMel Cotillion.

In Cherry's words, "Victorio is simply the best."

Victorio's foals prove that she was so right.

We have followed the Bristol success formula with embellishments of our own. Along the Bristol lines we own Bristol Jade, Caer Wydr Grenadine, Glynmagic Last Illusion, RosMel Rachelea, RosMel Black Velvet, RosMel Magic In Motion, and Clanfair The Monarch.

We have retained the best of the Victorio daughters to build our future program on. They include:

Evans Paradise City
Evans Atlantis Morriset
Evans Bram Stoker
Evans Cypress Hill

Our purchase of the incredible Lithgow Houdini son, Glynmagic Last Illusion in the spring of 2001 was another step in consolidating the type of Welsh Section B we plan to produce. A son of the legendary Lithgow Houdini, Illusion brings the bone, type and beauty of the OLD Welsh. He has huge eyes, tiny ears and the soul of an angel. He was bred to a select number of our best mares for 2002.

In 2001 we were privileged to contract with Family Partners Welsh to purchase another intensely Bristol bred colt, Clanfair The Monarch. Monarch has it all, coupled with a trot which is simply breathtaking. *Llanarth Cavalcade, purchased in 2000, brings to our program the beauty and movement the Llanarth stud has long been known for producing. Cavalcade is sired by Twyford Signal and is out of Carolina's Painted Lady. He is bred to the following mares for 2002:

Blattner's Lil Sara, Sup. Ch. producer
Sheyenne Easter Skip
Evans Paradise City (Bristol Victorio x Bristol Jade)
Bristol Jade (Lithgow Houdini x Bristol Little Egypt)
Lane's Cherry Jubilee
RosMel Rachelea (Glannant Tango x Bristol Glorious Rachel)
Evans Pinkk Floyd (Bristol Victorio x Lane's Cherry Jubilee) owned by Family Partners

Morton's The Celebrity comes to us with several show ring successes already to his credit. Sired by *Stockham Commander and out of the wonderful *Cennen Sonatina, Celebrity has an exotic head and all the beauty and chrisma you could dream of.

Victorio has stood Res. Natl. Ch. at halter and has become a noted producer of exceptional foals in his young career as herd stallion. His foals inherit their father's extreme Welsh type and way of going and are wonderfully kind. You can see some of his offspring in our Section B Photo Gallery.
